Brexit Britain was given a huge boost this week after the US national security adviser, John Bolton, said the UK will be “first in line” for a trade deal with the US. Mr Bolton claimed a “sector-by-sector” deal could be used to quickly agree a deal if the UK leaves the EU without a deal at the end of October this year. But, speaking to talkRADIO, Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin has called for business professionals to be used in any future trade negotiations, as he compared Brexit to the “millennium bug”.

He said: “Brexit is a little bit like the millennium bug, this idea that if you don’t have a trade deal with the EU it will go to hell in a handcart.

“Or indeed that you must have a deal with the US. That’s just not the way it works.

“We heard the banks were going to leave and pretty well people are now saying it is no longer an issue – there are more people employed in the city than there were at the time of the referendum.”
