Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pledged to deliver Brexitby the end of October “come what may”, with the Tory Party leader demanding changes to the withdrawal agreement before the UK re-enters discussions with the EU. The Brussels bloc has so far refused to renegotiate the withdrawal agreement, and stood firm against ejecting the controversial backstop mechanism within the deal. But, speaking on BBC’s Dateline, David Aaronovitch, has outlined leading Brexiteers’ crucial mistake “immediately” after the EU referendum. He said: “Most of us who take a […]

Brexit REVEALED: How backstop can make UK more competitive than EU – Macron ‘up in arms’

Shortly after winning the keys to Downing Street, Mr Johnson insisted the European Union must “abolish the undemocratic backstop” before there is any chance of a Brexit deal being signed. The Prime Minister’s hardline stance has left him at loggerheads with Brussels, who insist the backstop is going nowhere. With all roads pointing to a no-deal Brexit on October 31, some in the Belgian capital are left perplexed why Brexiteers have turned down a deal that provides favourable trade conditions for Britain. EU capitals believe Michel Barnier handed too many concessions to Britain in creating the insurance policy to avoid a hard border on Ireland after Brexit. […]

Woodcock is right: Remain’s grand strategy is so muddled as to not exist

What use do Remainers hope another A50 extension would be put to? Boris Johnson’s Brexit plan is commendably clear: leave on 31 October without a deal. The clarity might be the only thing that’s commendable about it and it leaves many questions open about what happens into November and beyond but on the central point of Britain’s EU membership, the issue would be closed. Johnson and the rest of the government might argue that No Deal isn’t technically the government’s policy and that they leave open the possibility of leaving with a deal, and indeed would prefer to. Such an […]

The video is from 2016 and simply records a moment in Parliament where he insisted the UK’s exit from the EU would be “automatic”. Mr Hammond explained that the UK had two years to negotiate a deal with the EU but failing that, the UK would then leave automatically from the bloc, essentially a no-deal Brexit. He said: “At the end of that two years there is no guarantee that an agreement will have been reached. “But our exit would be automatic unless every single one of the remaining member states were to agree to an extension of the negotiating period. From Peterloo to Brexit

Today is the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, when working people in Manchester were attacked and murdered by cavalry forces for daring to demand the right to vote. And what is our political class doing on this anniversary of such an important event in British political history? They are plotting, tirelessly, to overthrow something that millions of working-class people, and others, voted for: Brexit. They are doing what the Peterloo butchers did, only by political means and court cases rather than with bayonets and sabres. Our current political rulers may not physically attack the masses for having the temerity to […]
