Afternoon all 👋,
Voting has started in the first ballot🗳 for the Tory leadership contest. The contender with the lowest share of the vote, and anyone with under 5 per cent of the vote, will be immediately eliminated from the contest 🙄.
So, who could be about to exit the leadership race?🤔 *Jacob Rees-Mogg*, who is supporting *Boris Johnson*, has suggested that *Mark Harper* could be in danger.
*Esther McVey* is another outsider who could be in trouble. She’s already admitted that she knows she’s a longshot: “I’m the outsider, I know that”.
*Theresa May* has been spotted voting for her own successor this morning, although she gave no suggestion as to who she would be supporting 👀.
Elsewhere this morning, *Rory Stewart* has warned that the UK risks being stuck in a political “zombieland” where no decisions are taken if Parliament fails to pass a Brexit deal🤨.
Mr Stewart has previously indicated that he believes he can get a Brexit deal through Parliament but conceded that it would be “very, very tough” for the UK to be out of the EU by October 31.
Despite this, *Patrick Minford* has explained today why Britain is more prepared than ever for a no-deal Brexit: http://bit.ly/31FfWwO
