Morning folks ☕,
With 81 MPs now backing him, *Boris Johnson* is starting to put some serious distance between himself and the rest of the Tory leadership hopefuls.
Later today, the former Foreign Secretary could even be set to secure the 105 MPs needed to guarantee himself a place in the final two👀. Johnson now has nearly 50 more backers than any of his closest rivals. It’s no longer a question of which two MPs will be in the final head-to-head, but more a question of which MP will be left to face Johnson🤔.
One man who is hoping he can rise to the challenge is *Sajid Javid*. The Home Secretary launched his campaign to be leader last night and outlined his own plans for delivering Brexit by October 31. 🗓
Mr Javid has told the Today programme 📻that he believes renegotiating the *backstop* is crucial and suggested that as Prime Minister he would ask *Leo Varadker*, the Irish Taoisech, to reconsider the current agreement on the Irish border arrangements.
Despite this, *Allison Pearson* has explained why Tories would be mad not to choose Boris for leader: http://bit.ly/2IRyTUv
And what chance do MPs now have of blocking a *no-deal Brexit* after last night’s failed attempt?🤷♂ *Sir Oliver Letwin*, a leading Tory Remainer, has admitted that Parliament may have now run out of options to prevent the next Prime Minister from pushing through a *no-deal Brexit*.
We have a special column from *Professor Anton Muscatelli* today. He’s explained that whatever Brexit brings, British science can thrive if the next PM shows enough political will🧐: http://bit.ly/2Ki5qpA
