Morning Brexit Update 08-05-19

Morning all 🤨,

Despite reports yesterday that a breakthrough could be on the horizon for *cross-party talks*, it looks as though we are back to square one.

A *Labour source* has openly told the Times that yesterday’s Brexit offer was “a million miles away from a compromise that could win the support of Labour MPs”.

So, what was the offer?🤷‍♀ *Theresa May* reportedly offered an olive branch to *Jeremy Corbyn and Labour* in the form of an arrangement which would have seen the UK strike a comprehensive but temporary *customs arrangement* with the EU until 2022. Labor, however, appear less than satisfied with the offer.

In his Telegraph column, *Philip Johnston* has explained why cross-party talks were always set to fail:

Further cross-party Brexit talks are expected today but you’ll struggle to find anyone who expects those to yield a breakthrough. A fiery *PMQs* could see talks all but breakdown if Corbyn goes after May on her Brexit offer in the Commons today. 🧐

Meanwhile, *Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage* has been on ITV’s Good Morning Britain programme as he looks to ramp up his campaign ahead of this month’s *European Elections*. He has boldly predicted this morning that the Tories could split, adding that “the collapse of the Government could spark a general election”.

*Michael Deacon* believes that now *Nigel Farage* has stopped playing the clown, the Tories are running scared. Read on here:
