Late Morning Brexit Update… 24 April 19

Morning everyone,

Will *Theresa May’s* cross-party Brexit talks with Labour come to an end this week?

The Telegraph’s Steven Swinford reports this morning that the PM has been told by Cabinet ministers that the talks with Labour should end. Ministers including Chris Grayling, Gavin Williamson and Liam Fox have described the ongoing stalemate as “damaging”.

*Jeremy Corbyn* has claimed that the PM has refused to budge on the terms of her Brexit deal – despite parliament voting it down three times so far. 🤨 The situation has led some Tory MPs to believe that a change of leadership is necessary to move beyond the current impasse. Read on here:

The warnings follow last night’s executive *1922 Committee* meeting, where changes to Conservative party leadership rules were discussed. And whilst Theresa May has been told by backbench MPs to set a departure date, it does seem that there is not yet a clear verdict on whether to change the rules. Those talks are ongoing. 🕰

And in European election news, ex-Tory MP *Ann Widdecombe* has announced her defection to Nigel Farage’s *Brexit Party*. The former Shadow Home Secretary will stand in the South West for election on May 23. 🇪🇺 Follow the story here:
